VINYL PAINTED KITCHEN DOORS
Our designers can create a truly unique kitchen for your home where you can have any combination of finish and style you require.
Painted kitchen doors can manufactured in any of three ways:
- By using a timber and finishing it to the required colour, this method generally is used to accentuate the existing grain of the wood below
- By using a paintable vinyl wrapped door and finishing it to the required colour, this will reduce the cost slightly as vinyl wrapped doors are more cost effective to produce, however, the grain effect will no longer be apparent
- By using an MDF door (patterned as required) and finishing it to the required colour, this is the most cost effective way, however, the grain effect will no longer be apparent and there are added risks involved as the MDF panel used for the door must be prepared correctly before the final colour is applied. I would only recommend this method if it is being carried out by a professional manufacturing/finishing company and not by the retailer or by the customer.
Kitchens with painted doors can be designed in a number of styles from contemporary living to traditional country cottage. The flat slab styles lend themselves towards to the modern design, whereas the more detailed designs with raised centre panels and profiled frames are more suited towards the traditional market. The shaker design (square with a recessed centre panel) is probably the most versatile of all of the timber door styles as this can be accommodating towards either a modern or traditional kitchen design, as long as the appropriate accessories are used to compliment the kitchen.
TIMBER KITCHEN DOORS
Timber kitchen doors can manufactured in any of three ways, either by using solid timber for the complete door, by using solid timber for the frame and utilising a veneer for the centre panel or by solely as a veneered door.
The cost of a timber door is determined by three parameters, the first being the amount of natural timber used in the construction of the door therefore, the solid timber door is usually the more expensive than the veneered option, and secondly by the type of timber used, as timbers such as Walnut and Oak are more expensive than those such as Ash or Pine.

Always remember that timber doors are made from a natural product, and therefore are subject to changing colour with age. This means that dependant on the type of timber used, the amount of daylight that your kitchen receives and, of course, the type and colour of finishing that the door has received, your kitchen will change colour over a period of time. This cannot be stopped, however, some timbers are more prone to changing colour than others. Normally lighter coloured woods darken and the darker coloured woods tend to lighten.
